Biography

Ashlee Nicole Simpson was born on October 3, 1984 in Waco, Texas to parents Joseph Truett Simpson (a former Baptist minister and now her manager) and Tina Ann Drew Simpson. Naturally famous being the younger sister of singing sensation / TV celebrity Jessica Simpson, she became well-known in her own right as Cecilia in the TV series 7th Heaven. She also starred in her own show, The Ashlee Simpson Show, and has since appeared in various TV talk shows such as “Good Morning America”, “Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show”, “Late Show with David Letterman” and “Larry King Live”. Appearances in “Saturday Night Live”, MTV Video Music Awards, “Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica” and “One Tree Hill” have further boosted this young lady’s celebrity status. Ashlee started her singing career with the release of a song titled “Just Let Me Cry” for the soundtrack of the film Freaky Friday. She recorded this song in between breaks in her shooting schedule as Cecilia in 7th Heaven, starting her young career as a pop singer like her older sister. She eventually landed a record deal with Geffen Records and the success of her debut album Autobiography in 2004 and second album I Am Me in 2005 cemented her status as a pop star in her own right.

Ashlee’s talent was first recognized at a young age when, at age 4, she started dancing and was eventually admitted to the School of American Ballet at age 11, the youngest ever person to be accepted in the prestigious school. The minimum age for admission was technically 12, but her father lied about her age to get her into the school. She began to dance professionally at age 14 and joined her then very famous sister’s stage show. While touring with her sister, she dreamed of pursuing her own career in the music industry as well as starring in her own TV show.

She achieved her goals when she recorded her first album Autobiography which was very successful and simultaneously starred in her own show, “The Ashlee Simpson Show”, which was about the recording of her first album. She has since then released another number one album, I Am Me. She also appeared in Rob Schneider’s movie “The Hot Chick” and other small roles and guest appearances in many TV series and talk shows. Despite an incident involving lip synching in an episode of Saturday Night Live, Ashlee continued to rise to stardom. Bouncing back from that embarrassing episode, Ashlee continued touring to promote her second album, landed a couple of singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and also appeared as Roxy Hart in the London stage production of “Chicago”.

Ashlee Simpson has already accomplished a lot in her young career and is set to continue her prominence; she is currently working on her third album, Bittersweet World, scheduled to be released this year. She has proved that despite a few mistakes and mishaps in the past, she is prepared to take on her sister and the music industry.
